Canada is discussing the revival of the 4,600 km Energy East pipeline project as a response to Trump’s proposed tariffs. The project was first announced by TransCanada (now TC Energy) on August 1, 2013, but was canceled on October 5, 2017.
Reports suggest that there is just one major issue—there’s no money, and no one wants to take the risk.
For the pipeline to be profitable, it would need to operate for decades, but there are no guarantees that future Canadian governments won’t impose stricter climate and environmental policies, potentially leading to reduced oil production. Other projects could face a similar fate.
