British analysts crunched the numbers and were surprised to find that China’s clean energy investments in 2024 nearly matched the total global investment in fossil fuels.

According to Carbon Brief, China’s clean energy sectors grew three times faster than the country’s overall economy, contributing 26% of total GDP growth last year and accounting for just over 10% of total GDP—¥13.6 trillion ($1.9 trillion).

With major projects set for completion before the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), China’s investment in clean energy is expected to keep rising in 2025.
