A high school student from the U.S. decided to entrust the management of his $100 investment portfolio to artificial intelligence — ChatGPT.
Over the course of a month, the AI independently selected niche stocks, placed buy and sell orders via Yahoo Finance, and ran custom scripts to automatically track prices, log performance, and generate charts.
The result? The portfolio’s value surged by an impressive 23.8%, while popular benchmarks like the Russell 2000 and XBI rose just 3.9% and 3.5%, respectively. In other words, ChatGPT outperformed the market by nearly sixfold.

Curious? The scripts used to power this little experiment are available on GitHub: https://github.com/LuckyOne7777/ChatGPT-Micro-Cap-Experiment
Of course, none of this should be taken as investment advice — just an intriguing story about a student and a neural network pulling off a clever financial trick together.
